My Story

The inspiration for this blog comes from the best gift my mom ever gave me and my sister: a diary.

From the day we were born, our mom kept a diary, documenting everything we did for over three years. She wrote about our discoveries, the times we were sick, our birthday gifts, doctors visits; and of course, the food we tasted for the first time. When I emigrated, this diary was the first thing I took with me. From time to time, I sit down to read through it, always finding little details that spark even more memories.

It took me a while to understand just how important food is in my life, but this diary showed me the way. I studied photography and eventually focused on food photography, which deepened my connection to these stories. With time and distance from my mom and family, I realized that some of my memories and family recipes were slipping away. I knew I had to record them, to share my story with anyone willing to listen, and to connect through food and memory.

This is how The Memory Table was born, from the need to share and not forget.

Memory around food connects us in the most primal and human way. My hope is that this blog becomes a place where we can share these stories, uncovering not just the recipes but the memories that make them special.

Perhaps some of my stories will remind you of your own, or inspire you to create a new one.
